_ Kamaka Brown
is a multi-talented writer, motivational speaker, comic, producer, writer,
actor and master of ceremonies. He is serious about the business of being
funny. He knows comedy and just what it is that makes people laugh.
Kamaka was born and raised in Waimea Valley on the North Shore of O'ahu. He has a feel for the style and humor from Hawaii that crosses cultural boundaries. He offers local style comedy connecting with his local roots. It's irreverent and "kolohe" with a heart.
Kamaka has appeared on TV in Hawaii with “Hot Hawaiian Nights Showcase”, “NightTime” with Andy Bumatai, at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, Hawaiian Waikiki Beach Hotel, Boomer’s Night Club, Bo Irvine’s Comedy Club, Sharky’s Comedy Club, Mark’s Garage Comedy and Brew Moon. He is a repeat guest on Hawaii’s top rated radio show the “Perry and Price Show”. He credits legendary Hawai'i based comic Andy Bumatai as a mentor when he began stand up comedy.
He has opened for the Temptations, Chuck Berry and B.B. King during their Hawaii performances. Kamaka has had the pleasure of also opening for legendary Hawaiian entertainers: Makaha Sons, Cyril Pahinui, Dennis Pavao, Hookena, Henry Kapono, Cecilio Rodrigues, Willy K, Hapa in concert. He opened for Hawaii’s godfather of Polynesian hip hop Fiji in Las Vegas, jazz fusion group Hiroshima, Hawaii’s Sudden Rush, reggae group Big Mountain and more.
Now a California resident, Brown has performed at Pasadena’s Ice House, North Hollywood’s Ha Ha Café, Hollywood’s Comedy Store, corporate and private events in Southern California, Washington and Oregon. He recently performed at the Tropicana, Fremont, Greek Isles Casino and California Hotels in Las Vegas. Kamaka performed at the Chinook Winds Casino and Resort as well.
Kamaka has produced and hosted “ Random Acts of Comedy”, an open mic stand up comedy show in Thousand Oaks, California. This multi-talented performer also has produced his “one man” show of original short stories written in Hawaiian Pidgin English called “If Can, Can. If No Can. No Can.” This performance piece has been warmly received in Hawaii, Washington, Oregon and Southern California. Accompanied by slack key guitar, Kamaka relives childhood vignettes of growing up in pre-statehood Hawai’i. It truly is a one of a kind musical theater experience.
Recently, Kamaka joined forces with musician and entertainer Charlie Kiaha in multiple venues of Hawaiian festivals, performances and internet radio projects with critical success.
His “Aloha Happens” products, CD and DVD of his performances can be found at www.kamakabrown.com
